Knowles Godfrey, Jr. was born 13 September 1762 in Chatham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts to Knowles Godfrey (1735-1766) and Jerusha Ryder (1739-1766) and died 30 August 1794 Charleston County, South Carolina of yellow fever. He married Mary Ryder (1766-1822) 9 October 1786 in Chatham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.

Biography

Knowles Godfrey in 1779 Served in the revolution then age 17 as a private in Capt. Joseph Franklin Co. Col. Nathan Tylers Regiment at Rhode Island,and in 1780 in Capt. Nathaniel Freeman co. He was a sea Capt.Master of the Schooner Hannah of Boston built at Yarmouth in 1786. He sailed from Chaptman 6/25/1794 one month after the birth of his fourth child,and died of yellow fever at Charleston South Carolina.
