Kobyak (c1140-1184) - Polovtsian Khan, repeatedly raided the Russian territories in 1170-1180, and also participated in the internecine wars of the Russian princes.
In 1171, together with the Polovtsian khan Konchak, he lost an important battle to the Russian prince Igor Svyatoslavich, who came with his army on the Polovtsian land. The famous battle took place near the Vorskla River. In 1180, together with Khan Konchak, he helped Svyatoslav Vsevolodovich capture Kiev.
In 1184, in the Battle of the Oryol River , the Polovtsian army headed by Kobyak suffered defeats from the troops of Svyatoslav Vsevolodovich and Rurik Rostislavich. Kobyak was taken prisoner.
Kobyaka is not mentioned in the chronicle, but S. A. Pletnev on the basis of praise of Svyatoslav Vsevolodovich in "The Tale of Igor's Regiment" : "A bad Kobyak from the meadow of the sea, from the gorges of the great Polovtsian villages, as a whirlwind, provokes. And fall (literally "fallen") Kobyak in the city of Kiev, in the grandson of Svyatoslavl " - concludes that the captured Kobyak was killed in Kiev at the Svyatoslavskyy yard.
This was a All-Russian campaign, except for Svyatoslav and Rurik in it involved eleven princes. Together with Kobyak, his two sons and 16 other khans were captured. Among the sons of Kobyak named Danilo .
