Reverend Lucus Henry Ruland was born in 1731 in Huntington, Suffolk County, New York to Jean Ruland and Pietertjen Eschamp. Lucus was a Baptist minister. He married Margaret Wood on July 28, 1754. Lucus served during the American Revolution as a member of Captain Nathanial Platts' Company in Colonel Josiah Smith's Regiment of the New York Militia in 1776. He was paid from July 26 to December 2 of that year. He was listed as "enlisted man." Lucus died on February 17, 1809 in Patchogue, Suffolk County, New York from injuries after falling off of his horse.
