Biography

Lyle R. Amlin was active in newspapers, earning the titles publisher, editor and columnist. Amlin started the Valley Post in April 1979. He was the owner and Editor until he sold the newspapers to John Bodle of Keno, Ore., in February 1988. In addition to the Valley Post, Amlin published the Valley Times, the Happy Valley Times, the East Valley Times and the Post Advisor.

After selling the newspapers, Amlin stayed in the printing business, establishing LyRo Printing and continued to print the Valley Post through 2006. His son, Lane Amlin, took over the printing business when Lyle Amlin finally retired in June 2007. Lyle Amlin continued to served as editor of an online magazine and reviewed other members’ work so they, too, could become better writers, his son said. “He kept educating himself as a writer and wrote several short stories and novels over the last few years,” Lane Amlin said.

He was also a community activist. Even in retirement, Lyle Amlin spent most of his time volunteering with the Anderson Cottonwood Christian Assistance (ACCA) program. He was very active in the Anderson community and was a member of the Anderson Kiwanis for many years. “He started and maintained the community garden for ACCA as well as volunteering at the agency’s food bank every week until he learned of the cancer,” Lane Amlin said.

Initially diagnosed with cancer in September, “He fought a brave battle and endured many radiation and chemotherapy treatments. He went on his own terms and passed away at home, without pain,” son Lane Amlin reported.

He was married to Elaine Amlin and had three children, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren at the time of his death.
