Farmer's wife and land-owner with her husband. She and her sister attended Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, studying to be teachers. They would later serve as teachers in a rural Screven County school. A lover of music, she played the violin and my mother-in-law still has one of her instruments. She also worked for a few years at a local White Stag blouse factory. She was a member of Buck Creek United Methodist Church. Mae died of leukemia.
