Early life

Maggie Brennan was born in 1859 in London, England of Irish heritage. Her parents were Michael Brennan (c 1825-aft1871) and Bridget Joyce (c1831-aft1871), who were married on 17 February 1856 at Saint Anne Soho, Westminster. Maggie's siblings were William (c1863-aft1871) and Patrick (c1867-aft1871). The 1871 census (transcribed) shows them as the Brenan family living in Westminster, Berwick Street.

Marriage

On 10 June 1878 Maggie Brennan married Francis Blunt (1857-1882). During their short marriage Frank owned a fish shop in St. James while Maggie worked as a laundress. They had one child, Louisa Blunt (1878-1971).

Later life

Maggie was widowed in 1882 aged just 22. In that difficult situation she unfortunately turned to drink and became an alcoholic. She was first arrested for being drunk and disorderly in about 1883.
