Margaret Graham (1885-1975)

Margaret Graham was the daughter of Ed Graham and Rowan Daniel Graham of Orange County NC.  Her first marriage was to Mr. Laws, who was the Register of Deeds for Orange County.  She owned and operated a boarding house on Front Street in Burlington in the 1930's, during the time the dozens of cotton mills in Alamance County were flourishing.  In the years following The Great Depression, young people from the farms in surrounding counties flocked to Burlington in seach of work and some found lodging and hearty meals (and, in some cases, future spouses) at Mrs. Laws' boarding house.  It was during this time that she met and married Mr.Jay Wirt Kail, a poet and actor.
