"The village of Nether Tabley, manor and mansion, came to them (the Leycesters) with Margaret Dutton, daughter of Jeffrey Dutton, of Dutton, in the county of Chester, A.D. 1272, as appears in the history and antiquities of Cheshire, by Sir Peter Leicester, baronet. 'Jeffrey Dutton, son of Adam Dutton de Dutton, gave Nether Tabley to his daughter Margaret, and her heirs, about the end of the reign of Henry III. this Margaret first married Robert de Denbigh, and had no issue; afterwards she married Nicholas de Leicester, by whom she had issue, and to whose succeeding progeny the manor of Nether Tabley still belongeth."
