Marjorie Carrick (1256-1292), was countess of Carrick, Scotland, and is most famous today as the mother of Robert the Bruce.

Marjorie is referred to in Barbour's Brus as "Marthok" which means "Little Martha" in Gaelic. When her first husband Adam died during the Eighth crusade, his companion at arms, Robert Bruse the 6th Lord Annandale, arrived to inform the young widow of her husband's death. Marjorie was so enamoured of this messenger that she held him captive until he agreed to marry her.

Disputations of lineage

Some traditions attribute the paternity of Thomas Randolph 1 Earl Moray to an unnamed daughter issue of Marjorie from her first marriage to Adam Kilconath. This has not been substantiated.
