Obituary

THE PASSING OF THE PIONEERS

We regret to record the death of Mrs. Martha S. Wiggins, wife of Mr. Charles Wiggins, of Major's Creek, who passed away on Saturday night last at the age of 83 years. For over six months she had been suffering from heart trouble. As the result of a severe cold she contracted bronchitis a week or so ago. Her end came very suddenly. Born in Chelsea, England, she came with her parents to N.S.W. when five years of age. The family settled at Demondrille, near Murrumburrah, where her father kept a hotel for some time.

Later on they came to Major's Creek, where she resided for over 50 years, and where she was married. The deceased (one of the Keyte family) was a fine type of citizen, and had the respect and esteem of all sections of the community. No one ever came to Mrs. Wiggins' door hungry and went away with an unsatisfied appetite.

She leaves a husband and eight children to mourn her loss, viz., Mr. J. J. Wiggins (Major's Creek), Mrs. Cleaver (Canberra), Mr. J. W. Wiggins (Mortlake), Mrs. Jocelyn (Rockdale), Mr. T.Wiggins and J. W. Wiggins (Major's Creek), Mrs. Rowe (Canterbury) and Mr. H. C. Wiggins (Kiama). There are 44 grandchildren and 62 great grandchildren left behind. The funeral, which took place at Major's Creek yesterday afternoon, was very largely attended.

Her remains were interred in the Churc hof England portion of the cemetery. The Rev. H. F. A. Champion officiated at the graveside.
