Biography
Mary Boren was born 6 September 1784 in Springfield, Robertson County, Tennessee, United States to Bazel Boren (1745-1812) and Susannah Bryan (1763-1836) and died 28 February 1848 Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, United States of unspecified causes. She married Jacob Young (1774-1842) 1801 in Springfield, Robertson County, Tennessee, United States. She married Willis William Boren (1796-1895) 30 June 1819 in Jonesboro, Union County, Illinois.
Just prior to the birth of Alfred Douglas Young, Jacob went away to work and was not heard from for a year. Years later his son Alfred wrote in his autobiography attributed his parent's divorce to a long work-related absence of his father from home. Jacob and Mary divorced in about 1810.
After the divorce, Mary's father convinced her to move north with him to Union County, Illinois where her children with Jacob grew up. She lived with her father until he died in 1812, then she went to live in the same house as her cousin Willis Boren. They were eventually married on 30 Jun 1819 in Union County, Illinois. Despite his young age, Willis was a good father to Mary's children by Jacob Young and they enjoyed a happy married life together.
The family moved to Gibson County, Tennessee where they joined the Mormon Church in 1843. Mary died about 1848 at Winter Quarters in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.
Willis left Winter Quarters, Nebraska, to join his children in Utah in the summer of 1853. Since Willis Boren's cousin-wife, Mary Boren, died at Winter Quarters, Willis married again to Mary Sampson.
