Obituary

The death of perhaps the oldest native of the Hawkesbury district took place on Friday evening last, 27th instant, in the person of Mrs. Mary Davis. The old lady had attained the age of four score years and four. Deceased married the late Christopher Davis, who pre-deceased her some years ago. They reared a large family, amongst whom are Messrs. George, Frederick, Thomas, and Mrs. Egginton.

Deceased had been living in her own cottage in Macquarie-street, Windsor, for many years. She was always a strong and healthy woman, and was conscious up till the morning of her death. A long line of decendants are credited to the deceased.

She is said to have had over one hundred and fifty grand-children, and over two hundred and seventy great grand-children.

If this be correct, she could claim to have the longest list of descendents of any person in the Hawkesbury district. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, the cortege which followed the remains to their last resting place was a very long one, and it was remarked by Rev. Dowe that it was the largest funeral he attended in Windsor.

The coffin was borne to the grave by four grandsons, the Messrs Allen. Rev. P. W. Dowe carried out the last sad rites at the grave, and Mr. A. Price, of Richmond, was the undertaker.
