Mary Eliza Harmon Nevers was born 3 April 1830 in Pendleton, Anderson County, South Carolina, United States to James Harmon (1801-1851) and Mary Ann Blanks Smithson (1808-1897) and died 19 March 1913 Carson City, Nevada, United States of unspecified causes. She married Samuel Andrew Nevers (1824-1889) 10 October 1859 .
In 1846/1847, Mary's entire family traveled from westward from Mississippi to Utah in the Mississippi Saints 1846 Pioneer Company, but apparently Mary stayed behind. After her parents reached the west and settled in the Gold Fields (1846-1848), Her father, James returned to Mississippi to get daughter Mary Eliza. It is not known why she didn't come with them to begin with. He died shortly after their return from a disease picked up while crossing the Isthmus of Panama (1851).
One source says she got married in Pendleton, South Carolina. By 1851 she was in Carson City, Nevada where her children were born.
