Obituary

Death Of Old Identity

A chapter in Parramatta's [sic] ended last Friday when the Book of Life closed for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Crouch, of Hunter Street.

Born at North Parramatta almost 90 years ago, Mrs. Crouch lived in this city all her life. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brogden, early pioneers who settled here more than 100 years ago.

A staunch supporter of All Saints Church, Mrs. Crouch was christened and confirmed there, and later became a leading vocaliste in the choir. It was while a member of the choir that she met and married a fellow member, Charles Crouch, who predeceased her 32 years ago. Three sons and three daughters survive.

Mrs. W. Cox, of Carlingford, and Mrs. T. Markwell, of Parramatta, are sisters.

About 100 friends attended the funeral at the Baptist Cemetery on Sunday afternoon after a service conducted at the home by Rev E. Walker.

Note

Some researchers have married her to Charles Crouch (1858-1940), but she is buried as the wife of Charles Crouch (c1851-1914).
