Mary Little was born in 1801 in the state of Maryland (according to the 1884 Tuscarawas County History under William Borland). She was married to Samuel Borland II (1785-1862) by John Hurless, J.P. in Harrison County, Ohio. Her parents, William and Sarah Little, left Elk Lick Township, Somerset County, PA and came to Harrison county in 1815 buying 160 acres in Section 2 of North township, Harrison county, OH from Joseph Kiser. They sold 45 acres to John Shaeffer in 1823. Mary's mother seems to have died between 1823 and 1826 when her father remarried. Her father sold the remaining 115 acres to John Trushell who was married to Mary's sister Fanny. Her father left Harrison Co. in 1834. The old practice was to bury someone in the orchard of the farm. Peter Trushell bought this 115 acres from John Trushell, his father, in 1868. Daniel Trushell who died in 1992 at an advanced age of 90 said there use to be a cemetery on that farm with an iron fence around it. This area is within 1 mile of Samuel Borland's original farm. Mary Borland and her mother, Sarah Little, are both likely to be buried here, as well as just a few others.
