Mary Rice Axtell Maynard was born 23 August 1619 in Stanstead, Suffolk, England to Edmund Rice (1594-1663) and Thomasine Frost (1600-1654) . She married Thomas Axtell (1619-1645) May 1638 . She married John Maynard (1598-1672) 16 June 1646 in Massachusetts.

Research Notes

Mary Rice was baptized on 18 August 1619 at Stanstead, co Suffolk, England; She was the daughter of Deacon Edmund Rice and Thomasine Frost. Mary Rice died before 1638 at England; presumed to have died, as we have found no record of her in America. There is an as-yet-unconfirmed report that she married Thomas Axtell and emigrated separately, but nothing about that report gives assurance that Thomas's bride was Edmund's daughter, rather than some other Mary Rice. The widow of Thomas Axtell did marry John Maynard.

There is no proof that Mary Rice (1619-1680) (aka Mary Rice Axtell Maynard) actually married Thomas Axtell. But this is based on a strong theory that both the Axtell and Rice families were neighbors in Hertfordshire.
