Matthew H Sanders was born 1836 in Franklin County, Georgia to Aaron Sanders (1769-1854) and Morning Thompson (1795-1885) and died 8 April 1864 Banks County, Georgia of unspecified causes. He married Malissa C Rucker (1841-) 21 March 1856 in Franklin County, Georgia.
Enlisted in the 24th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Company A - with several of his own cousins (Sanders) and his wife's cousins (Ruckers) as this unit was recruited from Banks County, Georgia. Apparently he died from injuries sustained in fighting in the civil war. The 24th Georgia was in several battles and sustained numerous casualties.
Regimental Record - Enlisted Private 06 Mar 1862. Died while home on sick furlough 01 Apr 1864.
