Sir Michael de Poynings, 2nd Baron Poynings was born circa 1318 in England to Thomas de Poynings, 1st Baron Poynings (c1300-1339) and Agnes de Criol and died 7 March 1369 England of unspecified causes. He married Joan de Rokesley .

Summoned to Parliament from 25 February, 1342 to 24 February, 1368. Upon the decease of the last lord, the king, by letters patent, dated the 14th of the same month, acknowledging his great valour and eminent merits, and reciting that he was slain in his service, received the homage of the present baron thought then under age, and in recompense of those his father's sufferins, not only granted him livery of his lands, but the full benefit of his marriage, taking security for the payment of his relief. This Michael, Lord Poynings participated in the glories of the reign of Edward III, and was amongst the heroes of Cressy.
