He married Lydia Thurley (1640-1716) 29 October 1661 in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.

Thurley Name
In his book, The Ancestry of Edward Wells, by Edward Wells, he writes that Ipswich town records that now remain are preserved in a beautiful indexed copy and that one of the earlier entries includes the following orthography. "Nathaniel Wells and Liedia Thrulley, married 29 Oct. 1661." The name here spelled Thurlley is variedly written in later records as Thurley.
Nathaniel was executor of his father's will. The following entry is found in one of the town books: 1676, September, Nathaniel Wells having brought up George Greeley from his birth, in recompense of his charge, he is ordered to live with the saide Nathaniel, his heirs and assigns until he is twnety-three years of age." The town book records his death, "Nathaniel Wells dyed the 1 December 1681." His will, dated August 26, 1677, and proved March 18, 1682, mentions children, Nathaniel aged 12, Abigail 20, Lydia 14, Sarah 11, Thomas 9, Hannah and Elizabeth 5. Nathaniel had served King George in the French and Indian Wars, and attained the rank of captain. He was married to Lydia Thurley (Thurlley) on 29 Oct 1661 in Ipswich, Essex, MA. Lydia Thurley was b. 1 Feb 1640 in Rowley, Essex, MA and d. abt. 1674 in Ipswich, Essex, MA. Nathaniel was the son of Thomas Wells and Abigail Warner.
