Biography
Neil Douglas Findlay was born 7 May 1859 in Shettleston, Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom to Thomas Dunlop Findlay (1825-1891) and Hamilton Douglas (c1829-) and died 10 September 1914 First Battle of the Aisne of killed in action. He married Alma Lloyd (c1872-1923) 1892 in St George Hanover Square, Greater London, England, United Kingdom.

Obituary
Brig.-Gen. Neil Douglas Findlay, C.B., one of the best British artillery officers and Officer Commanding the Royal Artillery, First Division, has been killed in battle at Torey, to the north of Chateau Thierry, through a shell having blown to pieces just as the British guns were getting the upper hand of the enemy. Gen. Findlay was a native of Lanarkshire, and was 54 years of age. After a distinguished career at the Staff College, he served with the Hazard Expedition in the Peshawur district of the Indian Punjaub, and his services received mention in despatches.
In the South African war he took part in the operations in Natal and at the relief of Ladysmith, also in the Transvaal east of Pretoria. He was several times mentioned in despatches from the front by Gen. Buller, and was awarded the Queen's medal, with six clasps. The deceased has left a widow and two daughters.
