Neil Henderson was born 1930 in Hamilton, Waikato Region, New Zealand to Thomas William Henderson (1897-1980) and Frances Dorothy Paterson (1898-1976) . He married Carol Tovey (living) 23 January 1957 in Wellington Region, New Zealand.
Neil was a teacher. Shortly after their marriage, he and Carol appeared on the 1960 electoral roll for Hobson, New Zealand's most northerly electorate, living at Te Kao, both listed as teachers. By 1966, they had moved south almost as far as Carol's hometown, listed in the Otaki electorate at 32 Winara Avenue, Waikanae, Neil as "teacher", Carol now using the very common description "married". In 1972 they are right back within easy walking distance of Carol's parents' house, in the Kapiti electorate, living at School Road, Plimmerton, with the same individual descriptions.
They retired to Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty, a destination popular with many retirees from the Wellington Region.
