Nicholas Wren 1630-1701 was born in Sussex England and believed first or second cousin of the architect Sir Christopher Wren. He married Margaret Bell, the daughter of one Henry Bell. One descendant stated in a letter to a nephew that Nicholas was a descendant of Cuthbert Wren, grandfather of Christopher. Ian Hall, a historian in Sussex tends to support this hypothesis.

Nicholas arrived in this country an indentured and extremely poor. However, he did work his way out of poverty and went on to marry Margaret Bell and have two sons, Nicholas and William. Most Wrens including the President trace our ancestry to William Wren and his wife Elizabeth Steptoe.

There is evidence the Nicholas Wren descendants may well be related to Sir Christopher. William's youngest son, Thomas Wren, is listed as the architect of Falls Church, VA. John Wren married Hannah Ann Turner. Their youngest son, James Wren designed the courthouse in Fairfax County.

John Wren's oldest son John Wren married Ann Lloyd and is the ancestor of President Obama. Reference the work by John Howard Wren, descendant of John Wren's younger brother William Wren and Mary Strother.
