Col. Paul Wentworth was born 10 May 1682 in Kittery, York County, Maine, United States to Ezekiel Wentworth (c1651-1712) and Elizabeth Knight (1646-1726) and died 24 June 1748 Somersworth, Strafford County, New Hampshire, United States of unspecified causes.

Biography

He lived at Salmon Falls on eighty acres of land that were surveyed for him on 23 Mar 1702. He also owned Great Ash Swamp on that was between Salmon Falls on Cocheco, which was 15 acres of land that was west of Blackwater. On 9 Dec 1715 he and his sister Elizabeth, quitclaimed all of their rights to the estate of their father, Ezekiel and let it pass to their brothers Benjamin Wentworth and Gershom Wentworth who shoudl take care of their mother, Elizabeth. In 1716 and in 1717 he held the rank of Ensign. In 1727 he held the rank of Captain. From 1716 to 1740 he was Selectman of Dover in New Hampshire. From 1732 to 1738 he was Representative for Dover and in 1733 he was Moderator for Dover. On 24 Jun 1748, just before his death he held the rank of Colonel.

Paul was one of the wealthiest men of his time and a leading man in both the Church and the Sate. He was a merchant and an extensive dealer in lumber of which his mills at Salmon Falls sawed as much as those in any other portion of the country. The lumber was rafted down the river to Portsmouth, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, On 3 Feb 1747/48 he wrote his will and is now preserved and considered one of the most valuable relices of the early Dover and Somersworth Wentworth families.
