Peter Calver was born October 1950 in England, United Kingdom to Dennis Calver (1916-2011) . He married Sian Lloyd (living) .

Siblings

Peter has a younger brother, who once met the late Duke of Edinburgh.

Childhood

In a 2022 newsletter, Peter confessed to having eaten dog biscuits and having put a buttery knife into jam.

Career

In the 1980s, Peter was part of two companies that developed software and later firmware and hardware, with particular interest in games. They became the world leader in video games about cricket.

Peter later became a world-renowned genealogist, founding LostCousins and writing its popular newsletter.

He had taken part in three expeditions of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. He himself never met the Duke or (despite hoping to meet) Queen Elizabeth.

Readers of one of his newsletters were told told how inexpensive was a subscription to the Essex Society for Family History - which had shown him (among other things) "the headstone inscription for my great-great-great-great grandfather Samuel Wheatl(e)y, who was buried at Netteswell, in 1858 (though he is described as ‘of Islington’".

Peter's wife is a writer on gardening topics.
