Peter Robinson Sr was born 6 March 1657 in Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts to Isaac Robinson (1610-1704) and Mrs Sarah Robinson and died 6 February 1739 Windham, Windham County, Connecticut of unspecified causes. He married Mary Manter (1665-1695) 1687 in Martha's Vineyard, Tisbury, Dukes County, Massachusetts. He married Experience Lumbert (1673-1727) 1696 in Scotland, Windham County, Connecticut.

Biography

Peter Robinson was born at Barnstable, Massachusetts in or before June 1657, s. of Isaac Robinson and his unidentified 2nd wife. Peter's father was the second son and only child of Rev. John Robinson, Jr. and Bridget White to venture to America.

Marriage and Family

Peter had sixteen children by two wives; three by first wife Mary Manter and thirteen by second wife Experience Lumbert. Thirteen of his children have recorded marriages with eleven leaving known descendants.

1st Marriage: Mary Manter

Peter's first wife Mary Manter died at Tisbury, Mass. before 1696.

2nd Marriage: Experience Lombard

Second wife Experience Lumbert died 13 years before her husband and is interred with an infant grandson at the Palmertown Cemetery at Scotland, Conn. By virtue of the inscription on Experience's gravestone, her full and correct identity is now known to her descendants-she was the half cousin of her husband's first wife.

Connecticut Gravestone

The grave of Peter Robinson, Sr., the early 1700s settler and patriarch of the Connecticut branch of the Isaac Robinson family at Windham, Conn. The inscription simply says "Mr. Peter Robinfon." It stands alone in the southeast uphill portion of the original section of the Scotland Village Cemetery, at the northeast corner of Devotion and Cemetery Roads at Scotland, Conn. In 2005 the memorialist found Peter's then 265 year old gravestone as well as some of his children within a few paces. The original portion of this cemetery is not in Hale's Connecticut Cemetery database.

Last Will and Inventory

Peter died at Windham, Connecticut between Feb. 6, 1739/40 (date of his will) and Apr. 15, 1740 (date of probate). The transcribed record of his will and inventory can only be found at the Windham Probate District at Willimantic, Conn. The inventory of his estate's personal property totaling £265-01-01 encompasses 2-1/2 ledger pages. £100 of the inventory concerns two bonds from sons Joseph and Israel.
