Peter Sydney Ernest Lawford was born 7 September 1923 in London, Greater London, England, United Kingdom to Sydney Turing Barlow Lawford (1865-1953) and May Somerville Bunny (1883-1972) and died 24 December 1984 Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, United States of cardiac arrest, kidney and liver failure. He married Patricia Helen Kennedy (1924-2006) 24 April 1954 in New York City, New York, United States. He married Mary Ann Rowan (1950-) October 1971 . He married Deborah Gould (c1951-) June 1976 . He married Patricia Seaton (c1966-) July 1984 .

He was a member of the "Rat Pack" and the brother-in-law of President John F. Kennedy and senators Robert F. Kennedy and Edward Kennedy. From the 1940s to the 1960s, he was a well-known celebrity and starred in a number of highly acclaimed films. In later years, he was noted more for his off-screen activities as a celebrity than for his acting; it was said that he was "famous for being famous".

  • Owing to a dispute between his widow and the cemetery, Lawford's ashes were removed from the cemetery in 1988 and scattered into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California by his widow Patricia Seaton Lawford, who invited the National Enquirer tabloid to photograph the event.
