Biography
Philip Stanhope, 2nd Earl Stanhope was born 15 August 1714 to James Stanhope, 1st Earl Stanhope (c1673-1721) and Lucy Pitt (1692-1723) and died 7 March 1786 of unspecified causes. He married Grizel Hamilton (-1811) 25 July 1745 .

The son of the 1st Earl Stanhope and Lucy Pitt, he succeeded to his father's titles in 1721. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society.
On 25 July 1745, he married Grizel Hamilton, daughter of Charles Hamilton, Lord Binning. In 1721, he succeeded to his father's titles. They had two sons, including his heir Charles Stanhope.
