Rebecca Adams was born August 1658 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut to John Adams (1638-1670) and Abigail Smith (1638-1673) and died 1726 Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut of unspecified causes.
Biography
Richard Risley bought 330 acres 6 June 1682 and about 252 acres at Hockanum, 29 Feb. 1683/84 from the estate of Jeremy Adams, "Conn. Hist. Society Collections 14:33-41. Jeremy Adams was his wife's grandfather. Richard Risley gave testimony, 20 May 1726 that "my father (in-law), John Adams, formerly of Hartford, deceased, had 7 children; 4 sons and three daughters...I married one of ye Daughters...ye sisters are all deceased." (New England Historical and Genealogical Register). The probate of the estate of John Adams in November calls his daughter Rebeckah, aged 12 yrs.in Aug. last (Manwaring's Digest). Although most of the children were not recorded in town or church records, there can be no doubt that the Risleys of the next generation were childen of Richard and Rebecca. (American Genealogist, Oct 1949).
Richard and Rebecca were probably married before 1668 when he and his wife were admitted to full communion in the First Church of Hartford. In May, 1687, it appears that they had several children baptized at one time at the First Church of Hartford which is the first record of their arrival to the world.
Settlement in Hockanum CT
Richard and wife lived on the east side of the Great River, south of the Hockanum river, both of which must be crossed by boats. The highway between Hartford and East Hartford had not been built yet. Richard was a man on some prominence in Hockanum for more than three quarters of a century, owing a large amount of real estate on which houses and farm buildings were erected. He received Lot No 78 in the great land grant of 1731.
