526 individuals were in the company when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Winter Quarters, Nebraska. This company was divided into two sections, Willard Richards section and Amasa Lyman Section. The Lyman section left the outfitting post on 1 July and the Richards section left on 3 July.

Rhoda Richards was a polygamous wife (#29) to the Mormon Prophet, Joseph Smith (1805-1844), but they had no children together.
2nd Marriage: Brigham Young
After Joseph's martyrdom, this widow married her 1st cousin and Joseph's successor, Brigham Young (1801-1877) as his 32nd wife. She was age 61 and he 44 at this time. (31 June 1846 - Nauvoo IL) They had no children together.
