Richard Barnes was born 21 October 1871 in Trunkey Creek, New South Wales, Australia to Thomas Barnes (bef1856-aft1871) and Catherine (bef1856-aft1871) and died 31 August 1942 Narrandera, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Lilah Victoria Eldridge (1881-1957) 1903 in Crookwell, New South Wales, Australia.

Obituary
The death occurred at his home, Pine Hill, in the early hours of yesterday of on old and respected resident of the Narandera district in the person of Mr. Richard Barnes, at the age of 69 years.
Mr. Barnes was a native of Trunkey, and came to Narandera about 33 years ago. He selected one of the suburban holdings at Narandera East many years ago, and resided there until the time of his death. He was a member of the Narandera East Parents and Citizens' Association for a number of years, and assisted at functions held at Pine Hill in aid of the school and other purposes. Deceased is survived by his wife and a family of one son and four daughters. The son is Lionel Barnes (Narandera); while the daughters are Ivy (Mrs. W. Russell, Narandera), Gladys (Mrs. T. Horkings, Narandera), Valerie (Mrs. R. Martin, Cootamundra), and Miss May Barnes. The funeral will leave St. Thomas' Church at 3 p.m. to-day (Tuesday) for the Church of England portion of the Narandera cemetery.
