1941 Pearl Harbor Attack

The Attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory, on the morning of December 7, 1941. The attack, also known as the Battle of Pearl Harbor, led to the United States' formal entry into World War II.

This sailor was a casualty of the horrific explosion that day onboard the USS Arizona and is remembered at the USS Arizona Memorial.

After completing high school, one of his sisters, Margaret Marie Ahern Andersen, attended College and graduated with a degree in Nursing. She worked in several different hospitals around the country and then joined the United States Air Force as a Flight Nurse. She served during the Korean conflict and was Honorably Discharged after obtaining the rank of Captain. She continued her work in Nursing and retired from the University of Rhode Island Health Services where she worked for over a decade.
