Richard Sergeant was born circa 1798 in Cumberland, England, United Kingdom to Nathan Sergeant (bef1798) and Jane Bayles (bef1798) . He married Rebecca Cornwell (1805-1832) 2 March 1821 in St Philips, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
He arrived in New South Wales on 14 September 1818 on the Isabella as a convict.
