Richmond-Tweed is one of a dozen regions into which people commonly divide New South Wales, a former British colony that is now the most populous state of Australia. One of the state's smallest regions, sometimes called "Northern Rivers", it is in the extreme north-east of the mainland portion of the state, south of Queensland's Gold Coast. It is the nearest mainland region to the offshore "region" Lord Howe Island.
