Richville, Arizona is today a ghost town located about 20 miles south of St. Johns, Arizona in Apache County, Arizona. It was originally established as a cattle ranch by two Mormon brothers, James Moroni Richey (1848-1930) and Joseph Benjamin Richey (1855-1926) who came down to the Little Colorado River Valley with about 200 others to form a Mormon colony in the area in about 1884.

The Richey brothers worked the land here from about 1884 to 1922 when they retired and moved back to St. Johns, Arizona. Many of their children were born and raised here and they report a small school, two humble homes with no electricity nor running water.

The town is located on the banks of the Little Colorado River, and originally both homes were on the east bank. In about 1889, both homes were moved to the west bank. Joseph's daughter Elinor, (last child from first marriage) was the first recorded birth, born here in 1884. In 1888, the two brothers made a special trek with their sweethearts to get married in the [St. George Utah Temple] on 12 Sept 1888.
