- Robert Adair (1659-1745) - heir of both Kilhilt Tower (Scotland) and Ballymena Castle (Northern Ireland). In 1690 he was knighted by King William III of England for bravery at the Battle of Boyne. In 1736 sold the Kilhilt Tower to the McDowell Family.
- Robert Adair (1709-1783) - early immigrant from Northern Ireland to North Carolina.
