Robert Hamilton was born 5 September 1859 in Dalbeattie, Scotland, United Kingdom to John Hamilton (bef1859-) and Mary Watson (bef1859-) and died 4 June 1935 Maitland Hospital, Maitland, New South Wales, Australia of stroke. He married Mary Cowper Erskine (1861-1942) 29 May 1884 in Dalbeattie Villa, Balmain, New South Wales, Australia.

Obituary
The death occurred yesterday afternoon of Mr. Robert Hamilton, of 13 Portland-Street, Horseshoe Bend, West Maitland, at the age of 75 years. The late Mr. Hamilton, who was born at Dalbeattie, Scotland, left his homeland on the S.S. Aberdeen on March 17, 1882, and had lived in this district for the greater part of his life. For many years he was associated with the firm of Messrs. Wolfe, Gorrlck, and Co., and was also employed as a grocer by the late John Lee, and later for many years was employed on South Maitland Railways. The deceased, who was well known and highly respected, enjoyed good health until about 18 months ago, and he failed to rally from a seizure last Saturday. The late Mr. Hamilton is survived by his widow and a family of three sons, Messrs. Robert, Cyril, and Gordon Hamilton (West Maitland), three daughters, Mesdames E. Morris, R. M. Begg (West Maitland), and H. Ellis (Baerami Creek), and 16 grandchildren. One brother, Mr. John Hamilton, of East Maitland, also survives him. The funeral will leave his late residence to-morrow (Thursday) morning, at 10.30 o'clock for, the Presbyterian cemetery, East Mailtland.
