Lt Gov Robert James Mackintosh was born 1806 in London, England to James Mackintosh (1765-1832) and Catharine Stuart (1768-1797) and died 1864 of unspecified causes. He married Mary Appleton (1813-1889) 26 December 1839 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
Robert James Mackintosh was a British colonial governor. As Governor of Antigua, he was the viceroy in the Leeward Islands colony between 1850 and 1855.
He married Mary "Molly" Appleton, daughter of the American merchant Nathan Appleton and had a son Ronald.
He was the son of Sir James Mackintosh (24 October 1765 – 30 May 1832) who was a Scottish jurist, Whig politician and historian.
