Robert Laborius Covington was born 1 August 1847 in Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska, United States to Robert Dockery Covington (1815-1902) and Elizabeth Ann Thomas (1820-1847) and died 27 December 1928 Washington, Washington County, Utah, United States of unspecified causes. He married Rasmenia Willemina Iverson (1865-1944) 14 January 1892 in St. George, Washington County, Utah, United States.
Robert was born on the trail during his family's westward trek from Mississippi to Utah. He was named Laborius for his mother's very difficult labor. She died soon childbirth and family friend Miriam Adair, age 20, would begin caring for this little baby boy.
