Roman Svyatoslavich Krasnyi of Tmutarakan
Роман Святославич Красный, князь Тмутараканский,, Prince of Tmutarakan, was born circa 1050 to Svyatoslav II Yaroslavich of Kiev (1027-1076) and Cecilia of Dithmarschen (c1030-c1070) and died 2 August 1079 of unspecified causes.
Roman Svyatoslavich was the second son of Grand Prince of Kiev Svyatoslav Yaroslavich.
In 1069 he took over the Principality of Tmutarakan after his elder brother Gleb Svyatoslavich moved to the Principality of Novgorod. He participated with his younger brother Oleg Svyatoslavich and with Boris Vyacheslavich in the Battle of Nezhatina Niva (1078), where he was defeated. Roman Svyatoslavich retreated to Tmutarakan, where he concluded an alliance with the Cumans and the following year, moved to Pereyaslav. The Grand Prince of Kiev Vsevolod Yaroslavich was able to negotiate with the Cumans and to break the alliance. The Cumans failed to protect him further and Roman was killed.
