Biography

Samuel Dyer (1635-1678) was the oldest son of William Dyer (1609-1672) and Mary Barrett (1611-1660). He named one his own children Barrett.

Samuel was born in 1635, quite possible on the Atlantic Ocean while his parents were immigrating from England to Boston. He was baptized 20 Dec 1635 in the Boston Church, the same month that the Dyers joined the church. Dyer became a freeman of Boston on 3 March the following year. There his parents were quickly attracted to the dissident religious teachings of John Wheelwright (1593-1679) and Anne Hutchinson. By 1638 they left to help settle the colony in Portsmouth RI.

Samuel would eventually marry the grandgauther of Anne Hutchinson, her name was also Anne Hutchinson (1643-1716)
