Samuel Mayo was born circa 1620 in Northamptonshire, England to John Mayo (1598-1676) and Tamisen Brike (1600-1682) and died 26 April 1664 Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Thomasine Lumpkin (1626-1709) 1643 in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.
Marriage and Family
There does not appear to be a record of the marriage. (If there is, hopefully someone will post the source.) The date of 1643/44 that is often cited is appears to be an estimate based on the estimated birth of the first two children at two year intervals. None of the data for this is well-known, and so these estimates are pretty rough. Thomasine was born about 1626 according to her age at death, so if she was of legal age (18) when she married, that would say no earlier than 1644. She is listed as Samuel's wife when she joined the church in 1649, but must have been married even before that since the two oldest children were baptized (together) in 1649. The oldest child is usually thought to be Mary, b. abt. 1645, but her age at death suggests 1646/47 is closer to the actual birth date. There is almost no evidence concerning the second child Samuel except he was baptized at the same time as Mary in 1649. So this marriage could fit almost anywhere between 1644-1646 without a hint of conflict with any known data.
