Samuel Robert Horwood was born circa 1853 in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia to Charles Elton Horwood (c1813-c1888) and Jane Eliza Beckett (1827-1909) and died 8 May 1925 North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Frances Rutherford (c1858-1902) 1879 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Obituary
The death occurred at an early hour on Friday mornring, of Mr. Robert Horwood, who, some years ago, was a well- known Parramatta citizen. He was a native of the district, and, in earlier life, was proprietor of several local hotels. He opened the Granville Hotel, now conducted by Mr. Dwyer, somewhere about the time of the establishment of Hudson Bros.' railway works at Clyde, and he was also licensee for a time of the Baulkham Hills Hotel. In later years, he was associated with an auctioneering business in Parramatta, but left the town a considerable time ago. He was a widower, and a brother of Messrs. Charles, Dan, George, and Vic. Horwood, prominent residents of the district. He leaves five sons and one daughter; one of his sons being Mr. Percy Horwood, of Parramatta. He had been an invalid for several years, and his end was not unexpected. Deceased had reached his 73rd year.
