Samuel Thorley was born circa 1768 in Draycott, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom to Samuel Thorley (c1748-) and Elizabeth Hall (c1748-1814) and died 9 August 1821 Richmond, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Agnes Shales (1776-1823) 18 April 1811 in St Philip's Church of England, Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.
He arrived in Sydney on 26 September 1791 on the Active (part of the Third Fleet) as a convict.
