Sarah Hanks gave birth to 6 illegitimate children, the eldest, Sophia Hanks was born in 1809, lived with her aunt Elizabeth Hanks (1776-1818) and uncle Thomas Sparrow, and after their death in 1818 lived with the Thomas Lincoln (1778-1851) family with her oldest daughter Sophie Hanks (1809-1893) as a cousin to president Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865). Lucy had eight children with Henry Sparrow.
