Simon Hogendoorn was born 7 February 1851 in Haarlem, North Holland, Netherlands to Machiel Hogendoorn (1812-1865) and Pieternelletje Bergman (1810-1860) and died 10 November 1932 Sint Elisabeths Gasthuis, Gasthuisvest 47, Haarlem, North Holland, Netherlands of unspecified causes. He married Catharina Groeneveld (1863-1922) 23 December 1885 in Haarlem, North Holland, Netherlands.
Early Life
Simon Hogendoorn was born on 7 February 1851 in Haarlem. Hs parents were Machiel Hogendoorn (1812-1865), a labourer and Pieternelletje Bergman (1810-1860). Both parents were from South Holland - Simon's father was from Nieuwkoop and his mother was from Delft. They married in Ter Aar in 1845 before moving to Haarlem. Simon's siblings were Magcheltje, Cornelis and Machiel. Machiel died in infancy, and there was also a stillborn son born into the family.
Marriage
Simon married Catharina Groeneveld (1863-1922) on 23 December 1885 in Haarlem. Catharina, who was born locally, was twelve years younger than Simon. She was the daughter of Jacobus Groeneveld (1822-1881) and Catharina van Vliet (1822-1896). Simon and Catharina were married for 36 years and had nine children.
Children
Later Life
Simon and Catharina spent their whole lives in and around Haarlem, briefly living in Schoten and Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude. They returned to Haarlem, where Catharina died on 29 April 1922 aged 58. Simon was a widower for ten years. He passed away at Sint Elisabeths Gasthuis (hospital) on 10 November 1932 aged 81.
