1758 Battle of Fort Ticonderoga

The French and Indian Wars In the summer of 1758, brought much combat action to the neighborhood of Fort Ticonderoga in Saratoga County, New York. Here French Canadian troops and their Indian warrior allies launched several ambushes on the British forces stationed there.

On July 20, one such raid near Halfway Brook, caught a small detachment of Colonel Nichols Regiment, scalping and killing about nine soldiers. These had "thro their own negligence having contrary to orders set out from [Lake George Camp] early in the morning without waiting for the escort." [1]
