Genealogical Research[]
Soon after Heber C Kimball joined the Mormon Church, his father's family became so embittered towards him that Heber was unable to learn anything of his family's ancestry, not even the name of his grandfather. This became even more disturbing to Heber after the Prophet Joseph Smith's sermons on vicarious salvation for the dead, and later the completion of the Nauvoo Temple.
In 1853, Heber employed a genealogist named Kane to go back East and find his family ancestry.
