Obituary

Brigr.-Gen. S. C. E. Herring Dead

The former commander of the N.S.W. Volunteer Defence Corps. Brigadier-General Sydney Charles Edgar Herring, C.M.G., D.S.O., V.D., Croix de Guerre, died suddenly at his Killara home late on Sunday night after a heart attack.

Brigadier Herring, who was 69, is survived by a widow and daughter, Diana (Mrs. F. E. Fleming, of Canberra).

After a service at St. John's Church of England, Gordon, at 11 a.m. to-morrow, he will be given a military funeral to the Northern Suburbs Crematorium.

Brigadier Herring was a former secretarv of the N.S.W. Golf Club and an estate agent. He was a councillor of the Royal Empire Society and a vice-president of the Millions Club.
