Main articles: Core Based Statistical Area and Metropolitan Statistical Area
The United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has defined 366 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs)[1] for the United States. The OMB defines a Metropolitan Statistical Area as one or more adjacent counties or county equivalents that have at least one urban core area of at least 50,000 population, plus adjacent territory that has a high degree of social and economic integration with the core as measured by commuting ties.[2]
Table[]
The following sortable table lists the 366 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) of the United States with the following information:
- The MSA rank by population as of July 1, 2011, as estimated by the United States Census Bureau[3]
- The MSA name as defined by the United States Office of Management and Budget[2]
- The MSA population as of July 1, 2011, as estimated by the United States Census Bureau[3]
- The MSA population as of April 1, 2010, as enumerated by the 2010 United States Census[3]
- The percent μSA population change from April 1, 2010, to July 1, 2011[3]
- The Combined Statistical Area (CSA)[4] if the MSA is a component[2]
