Gordon of Park[]
Charles Hillman, one of the administrators of the Duff section of the kittybrewster site, has very kindly provided some background to the facts behind the conundrum posed in the notes.
- According to Burke's, it appears that in 1681 William Duff of Dipple married Helen Gordon. According to the Book of the Duffs (page 87) ..., he married in 1681 Jean Gordon.
Burke is known for printing what he was told, without exhaustive corroboration. The Book of the Duffs was scholarship, based (according to Charles) on some archives that are now in the library of Aberdeen University in boxes under the name "Lumley-Smith Bequest". Mrs Lumley-Smith was a niece of the authors of the Book of the Duffs. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 12:01, September 15, 2010 (UTC)
